In Memoriam Helena Sturkey

Former club member Helena Sturkey has joined other great Kiwanians in heaven. Helena was an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her. She was a tireless supporter of club projects, many of which she originated. Her passion was young children and their well being. She supported the food bank at Middlebury Chapel as well as their Wednesday Night Kids Club. Those are two of the projects we adopted as a club.

Helena will be missed, both as a friend and as a Kiwanian.

Master Gardener Sarah Vradenburg to speak at April 14, 2013 Meeting

Sarah Vradenburg has been growing vegetables in her back yard for many years. However, when she retired from the Beacon Journal, she took the Master Gardener certification program and took advanced training in backyard and local food. Understanding how important food is to health, she has worked to help others grow food for themselves and their families. Neighborfood, a program of the Summit Food Policy Coalition, is one way she does that. She also chairs the Community Gardening Committee for Master Gardeners of Summit County.
